Creating an important commercial node for the community

Fotenn was integral in leading the municipal planning approvals process for the development of the Riverview Shopping Plaza – the first major commercial development located in Kingston’s east end since the city’s amalgamation. Throughout the process, Fotenn obtained a severance to separate commercial property from the surrounding residential neighbourhood. Other project components included obtaining both an Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw Amendment.

Fotenn proved instrumental in guiding the proponent and city through negotiations toward a successful settlement. We then took on the role of coordinating and managing an interdisciplinary team comprised of architects, engineers, surveyors and heritage experts.

Currently, the Riverview Plaza, located on Highway 15, is in the centre of extensive residential development which will soon include over 350 new homes. Owned by Tamarack (Rideau) Corporation, the plaza is comprised of a major grocery store anchor as well as several other national-brand tenants which cater to residents’ daily needs.
