North End Secondary Plan
A revitalization strategy to support future development and a thriving community,
Fotenn was retained to provide planning and urban design services to the City of Saint John, New Brunswick for the development of a Secondary Plan for the North End community. The land use and revitalization plan was identified as a priority project in the City of Saint John Strategic Plan (2023-2032), and satisfied a condition for funding through the federal Housing Accelerator Fund.
The planning area includes several vibrant and diverse community character areas, including residential, commercial, mixed-use, and greenfield areas. The goal of the project was to create a vision for a sustainable, thriving and healthy future for the area, achieved through strategic intensification and compatible design.
The Secondary Plan established policies for land uses that reflected each community character area, allowing for an appropriate range of housing, services, and building types. The Plan also included design direction in both the public and private realms, including streetscapes, buildings, waterfronts, transit nodes, and new subdivisions.
The North End Secondary Plan was well-received by the City and community, with key infrastructure investments envisioned to begin in the near future
